In examining
responses to new environments – ranging from relatively traditional
to moderately radical – it is becoming clear that age matters.
Occupants of new space do not react the same way, use the space in
the same way, or have the same degree of satisfaction or
acceptance, depending upon age. The well known factors, such as
organisational position, are still dominant. However, as younger
employees rise to positions of supervision and management, we can
expect even more stark differences
In the
context of recent work by the GSA, this presentation will discuss
the techniques of informing the programme of requirements and then
using these data to gauge responses to the workplace. Post
occupancy evaluations of several sites will be discussed in detail.
To date, the GSA has found different age-based responses to aspects
of the workplace. In addition the methods and factors affecting the
systematic institution of workplace strategy, across an inventory
of over 36 million square meters of space, affecting over 1.1
million people, will be discussed. Change management and
cross-project and cross-team relationships are seen to be key to
building customer-centric information and increasing the connection
between workplace strategy and business operational
success.
